Motorcycle Accident Injury lawyers
Sears Injury Law has covered many motorcycle accidents in the past, and unfortunately another one has occurred. This one happened on Saturday, May 18th of 2024 in Puyallup. At about 9:25 in the evening, a motorcycle was heading North on Canyon Road East and crashed into the back of an SUV pickup truck. According to witnesses, the motorcyclist was driving at speeds of 80 to 100 miles per hour, while the truck was going at around 40 miles per hour. Because of the high speed at which the motorcycle crashed into the SUV, it caused significant damage to both vehicles. The accident happened near 144 Street East.
The driver of the car struck by the motorcyclist jerked forward and heard a loud sound when the crash happened. It is possible that he suffered a whiplash injury in the accident, but he was not seriously injured and was not taken to a hospital. The motorcyclist, a 37-year-old man, unfortunately ended up dying from the accident. After the initial crash, a dark-colored SUV ran over the motorcyclist. The motorcyclist was declared dead at the scene. It isn’t clear if it was the initial accident that killed him, or being run over.
After running over the motorcyclist, the second SUV driver fled the scene. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department is looking for the driver. The SUV had a spare tire mounted in the back, and the car may have been an Isuzu Rodeo. If anyone witnessed what happened or has footage or information about the crash is encouraged to tell authorities to aid in their investigation. Investigators wish to question the driver of the second vehicle.
In Washington state, any driver involved in an accident that causes injury or death to a person has to stop their vehicle and not drive away. It’s fine if they move their vehicle off of the roadway, but completely fleeing the scene is illegal. Drivers involved in accidents that cause injury, death, or involved hitting a deceased person’s body have to provide their information. This includes their name, address, vehicle license number, insurance company, and insurance policy number. They also have to show their driver’s license.
People involved in accidents where injury occurred should try to offer reasonable assistance to the injured individual. They should help the person get in touch with emergency services, and if needed carry the person to safety or to get treatment. Washington state law prevents the act of helping an injured person from being used against the driver as evidence of liability for the accident.
If a driver does not stop after being involved in a fatal accident or one that caused injury, they could be charged with a misdemeanor or felony. This is true even if the driver struck the body of a person that was already dead. They will also get their driver’s license or permit revoked. In any case, fleeing the scene after hitting somebody, like what happened in this case, is very serious.

Hit and run accidents are a particularly dangerous type of accident. Usually, the person that gets hit has little to no protection, and they receive the full brunt of the vehicle’s force. This means that they can get severely injured or even die. Most people that get hit by a car or truck suffer from broken or fractured bones, usually in the extremities or pelvis. Someone can also receive head injuries from being hit, either from hitting the pavement or from the crash itself. Traumatic brain injuries are serious, and can cause a variety of symptoms, such as headaches/migraines, speech issues, loss of coordination and focus, nausea, sleeping problems, cognitive problems, mood swings, and more.
Back injuries from getting hit by a vehicle can cause significant pain and mobility issues. They can even paralyze a person, in the case of a damaged spinal cord. Some people never fully recover from a back injury. Hit and runs can also cause internal injuries, including punctured lungs, rib fractures, ruptured or damaged organs, brain bleeds, internal bleeding, and more. Internal injuries can be life-threatening and need immediate medical attention. Lastly, many victims hit by vehicles end up with soft tissue injuries, including tears, strains, sprains, lacerations, and contusions.
